Meet Our Tour Staff

While in South Africa, Tour Choir will be partnering with South African organizations, choirs, and retreat centers where they will volunteer and also give the gift of music to many. There is no way we can successfully and safely tour without the remarkable support and experience of our staff. Jane Money
Ms. Money founded Boston City Singers in 1995 as a division of Youth Pro Musica. In 2003, Boston City Singers became a separate chorus and youth development program with headquarters in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood, and currently, serves 500 young people in 16 programs for children ages 4 - 18. Jane has over 25 years of experience teaching music in classrooms, school and church choirs. She is passionate about teaching children to sing.
Ms. Money holds masters degrees in music from Auckland University in New Zealand; in music education from Trinity College of Music in London; in engineering (MS) from Boston University. She is also the Founding Artistic Director of “Children’s Voices of Ireland.” She is a former instructor with the Metropolitan Opera’s Urban Voices program in Boston, and the Director of Youth Choirs at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Wellesley, MA. She is a frequent workshop presenter at ACDA, MMEA, AGO and now Chorus America.
A native of New Zealand, Jane has been a resident of Dorchester for over 25 years where she fosters dogs for New England Brittany Rescue and knits socks near and far.
Wendy Silverberg
A vocalist and pianist, Wendy joined the staff of Boston City Singers’ in 2011 to direct early childhood music programs. In the Fall of 2012, she and Jane Money founded the Cambridge Children’s Chorus, a division of Boston City Singers, to offer Kodály, Training Chorus, and Cantare chorus programs. Wendy retired from the Cambridge Public Schools in 2013 after four decades of teaching music to young children. Educated at the University of Rhode Island with a degree in music education, she also earned a Masters Degree in Education from Antioch College and a Certificate from the Kodály Musical Training Institute of the New England Conservatory of Music. Wendy serves on the board of the Boston Area Kodály Educators and has sung with The Boston Cecilia since 1972. She has presented before the Eastern Division MENC, the National School Boards Convention in Orlando, Florida and the MENC in Boston. In 2010, Singapore’s Department of Education invited her to work with students and create a video for their teacher’s professional development. Since 2013, Wendy has traveled to Argentina, China and Norway on Boston City Singers’ behalf.
Kimani Lumsden
Kimani is a vibrant Music Educator who is passionate about the percussion and dance traditions of West Africa and the African diaspora. He performs with a variety of musical groups including the Haitian Drum and Dance Company, Fantezi Kreyol, the Art of Black Music and Dance, Silimbo African Dance Company and Lamine Toure with Group Saloum. Kimani grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, where he studied classical piano, and traditional Jamaican and Caribbean drumming at the Jamaica School of Music. Kimani joined Boston City Singers in 2012 as World Rhythm Ensemble Director. Currently, Kimani teaches music and traditional percussion at the Young Achievers Science and Math School in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood.
David Price
David, a Northern Irish Belfast native, has been working with Boston City Singers since our first international tour in 2007. Our South Africa trip will be his third tour with the choir having previously supported youth work and community development on the 2007 New Zealand and Australia tour and the 2015 Costa Rica tour. In October 2016, David also led a Leadership Development Retreat in Hyannis with our Peer and Section leaders. He is super excited about the trip and can't wait to be part of another BCS experience.
Back in Northern Ireland, David has been working in the education, reconciliation and community development sectors for nearly 2 decades. He is the Collaboration and Development Coordinator for an independent education charity - Community Relations In Schools (CRIS www.crisni.org) where he supports schools to work together to improve services and opportunities for children, families and the wider community. Outside of work, David keeps himself busy taking care his working cocker spaniel - Betty, cooking, running, singing and spending as much time as possible with friends and family.
Tom Morris
Tom is a lifelong musician who has championed music education in a variety of venues. He has taught music at the middle and elementary school levels for nearly thirty years. In 2003, Tom founded the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Training Chorus, a division of Boston City Singers. Under his leadership the chorus grew to include over seventy members, performing in a variety of venues around the greater Boston area.
Tom is currently the principal of Memorial-Spaulding School in Newton, Massachusetts, where among many initiatives, he is working with colleagues to create greater levels of arts-integration and performance opportunities within the curriculum. He holds a Masters of Kodaly from Holy Names University and Masters of School Leadership from Wheelock College. Tom is pleased to have the opportunity to visit South Africa with Boston City Singers – an organization he holds closest to his heart.
Carmen Piedad
Carmen, a Boston City Singers' alum has joined the staff full time as the Jamaica Plain Programs and Tour Choir Administrative Manager. After a 7-year membership, Carmen graduated from the choir in 2012. She stayed involved as the first singer representative on the Board of Directors. Carmen studied at Wheelock College with the prestigious Passion For Action Scholarship award and in 2016 she earned her BA in American Studies with a focus in Political Science and Global Studies. Post college Carmen was selected to participate in two international internships: The Good Work Foundation in rural Hazyview South Africa, and at the Corrymeela Peace and Reconciliation Retreat Center in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland. In addition to these internships, Carmen has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, and Central America as well as touring internationally with the Boston City Singers to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and as a member of the staff to Costa Rica. Carmen brings a lot of experience to the team because of her work in group dynamics, youth development, and conflict resolution. In addition, she has a special passion for connecting closely with the families and singers since in her words she, "grew up in the choir".
Fanny Lora
Fanny joined Boston City Singers in Spring 2016 and currently serves as Dorchester Program Manager and Administrative Associate. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Fanny (fahnee) is a dynamic artist, music educator, and arts administrator. As a singer, she specializes in Spanish/Latino repertoire and her genuine interpretations successfully bring the repertoire to life for the audience. Fanny is an active performer, who enjoys performing in private and public events, opera, and recitals. As a music educator, Fanny is very interested in developing curricula that is student centered and directly related to the social mission of any given arts organization. Fanny has worked for the Metropolitan Opera Guild teaching music in Spanish at the Joseph Hurley School, and for the Boston Children’s Chorus as Teaching Fellow and Social Framework Liaison. She is a graduate of Ithaca College where she obtained her BA in Music Performance & Music Education. In 2016, Fanny became Chairwoman for MetroWest Opera's Executive Board. Currently, she is a 3rd-year Trainee in the Alexander Technique Teacher Training Certification Program at Boston Conservatory. During her free time, she enjoys cooking and reading.
