After returning from the Athlone School for the Blind yesterday, we were given the opportunity to explore the Noordhoek Farm Village across the street from our retreat center. We got food and souvenirs from the local shops in the pouring rain. Before dinner, we had an impromptu dance party to 80’s music in the dining room, where everyone was getting down, including David! After a delicious dinner of rice and beef stew, most of us spent our time singing and dancing while doing the dishes. Once the dishes were finished, we all gathered in the dinning room with sleeping bags and hot chocolate to write postcards in front of a cozy fire. We began our day today with a short rehearsal, before traveling to the beautiful Cape Point, the most South Western point of Africa. We could tell it was going to be an incredible day as soon as we saw wild baboons and ostriches right after passing the gates of Table Mountain National Park. While our tour guide Leonard warned us about the baboons, we didn’t realize just how many there would be! On our hike up to the lighthouse we saw them steal many people’s things (including Aaliyah and David’s water bottles). The views were stunning and made for lots of great pictures of the cliffs and water. After eating lunch on the bus away from baboons, we had the opportunity to hike down to the beach and enjoy the views and sea breeze. Though the hike included one of the largest staircases we’ve ever seen, it was definitely worth the effort. The hike allowed us to get up close to the massive waves and feel the ice cold water and sand. After a quick rendition of Shosholoza, we decided it was time to head back to the bus in order to make our 4:00pm rehearsal. Hiking back up the staircase was significantly more difficult but provided us with massive feeling of accomplishment once we finally reached the top. It brought us out to the Cape of Good Hope where we took some group pictures. On the way back, we caught some more sights of baboons, ostriches (both wild and in farms), elks, and elands. Today, was one of the most stunningly beautiful days of our trip so far! Rose and Drew --

Quote of the Day: “I’ve been waiting for this day since Jane said she would be returning to Cape Town with the Choir, and I couldn’t wait to show you the amazing sights of The Cape of Good Hope” said Leonard as we returned home on the bus. Singer of the Day: Sophia, thank you for your calm, cool and collected response when the baboon tried to steal your camera thinking it was food. Shoutouts: Maggie, thank you for offering encouraging words as we faced the challenge of climbing infinite steps back up from the beach! :-)
