Last Supper

Today was a day of much needed rest and relaxation after a long week of performances, rehearsals and early mornings. Evie and Marysa led yoga in the morning to the “calming” sounds of Egyptian Geese and Ibises as the sun rose. Renee generously offered to make us all crepes for breakfast, which was much appreciated after a week and a half of Weet-Bix and corn flakes. We left Noordhoek at 10am for the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. The gardens are expansive and beautiful, with views of the mountains and Cape Flats in every direction. Leonard led us on a walk through all of the natural South African flora and fauna. We even saw a dinosaur! It was breathtaking, but we were also focused on the promise of freshly made fish and chips from a friend of Leonard’s who owns a fishery. After picking up the precious cargo of our lunch we drove down the coast through Muizenberg and into St. James. We ate lunch at St. James Beach and watched the waves pound the shoreline. I can honestly say that it was the best fish and chips that I had ever had. The Snoek fish was especially tasty despite the bones. On our way home to Noordhoek, Farouk took us further down the beautiful False Bay Coast. The staff gifted us an entire afternoon of free time at the center, which we utilized to its full potential and gorged on as much ice cream as we could stand at the Farm Village. All the while lying in the sun and listening to live music and playing with the adorable children and puppers. Once all the shops closed we came back over to the outdoor center and the field games commenced. Frisbee, hacky sack, and a combination of pickle and baseball all melded together, it was unbelievably fun. -ZachAfter a while, we went inside for our last meal from Salome, Bonnie, and Michelle. The savory buns were called “bunnies” and consisted of a fried dough sandwich with either cheese, jam, or beef curry on the inside. Because it was our last meal and they had treated us so well, we wanted to show how grateful we were. We sang to the three of them, and Michelle’s daughter as well. We sang Tshotsholoza, Ukuthula, Emlanjeni, and Soos ’n Wildsbok. It was very emotional and we all joined in a giant group hug afterwards to say our last goodbyes. In our meeting that night, we broke off into our family groups and discussed our personal symbols. I thought it went very well; we all learned a lot about each other and some great discussions came out of it. Afterwards, we all went outside and Zach and Luke lit a fire in the fire pit, ready to toast some marshmallows. We had some nice strawberry s’mores with digestive biscuits and had a dance party around the fire until we went off to bed. All in all I had a really good day, although the amount of people getting sick keeps increasing which is a bummer. —Jim--Quote of the Day:“This is the best fish and chips ever” said Jim as we ate at St. James Beach.Singer of the Day: Alexis, what a joy it is to see you perform!
