Josue, owner of Cubata Restaurant in Port Elizabeth.

This morning we enjoyed several hours of free time. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to swim, jump on the trampoline, play basketball, and simply hang out on this beautiful day. We were able to sleep in until 9 AM and have a delicious breakfast provided by really warm-hearted and generous cooks. After free time, we had another great meal before departing for our short bus ride to St. Saviour’s Church. There we had a 2 hour rehearsal which allowed us to become comfortable with the space and rehearse our new songs. It was important for us to have an efficient rehearsal since the concert, which was scheduled for the following evening, would be our last official concert of the trip - a sad reality for the the seniors in particular.

After the rehearsal we were eager to know where we would go for dinner (Jane had told us earlier that we would be eating a fabulous meal hosted by the Ubuntu Education Fund). We arrived at a small authentic Portuguese restaurant called Cubata. When we got off the bus, we were immediately greeted by the Ubuntu Education Fund staff. They were so excited to hear us sing that we decided to give them a preview of our concert in that moment. It was amazing to see their faces light up as soon as we began to sing a traditional South African song. Then, we sat down at long wooden tables and waited for what would be one of the most memorable meals of the trip. it was not long before the incredible smells of barbecue made our eyes grow wider and our mouths drool. Gigantic plates of ribs, chicken, prawns, chips (or fries), and garlic bread were delivered to us. The waiters and waitresses were enthusiastic and kind as they brought out plate after plate for our growling stomachs. After eating the most amount physically possible, we sang and danced for the owner of the restaurant. It was quite the experience and one we will remember. We returned home for free time and continued to talk about the delicious food that we would most definitely dream about. Needless to say, we slept well.

-- Quote of the Day:

“Mamma Mia” said Josue (the owner of Cubata Restaurant) when one of our singers asked him if we could take a picture of him.

Singer of the Day:

Cookie, thank you for your helpfulness and focus.

Shoutouts:

Vegetarians for putting up with all of the carnivores!
